IBC 2019: b<>com puts 5G in the spotlight!

The broadcast industry’s hallmark trade show, the IBC, will open its doors in Amsterdam from September 13 to 17. b<>com has once again been selected for the Future Zone, an area dedicated to the most innovative technologies. On the agenda this year: How 5G can benefit audiovisual professionals!

For players in the broadcast market, producing and distributing live content is key to their value proposition. These applications not only require a great deal of bandwidth, low lag times, and high quality of service, they are also subject to major constraints when it comes to operating costs.

At the IBC, b<>com will be demonstrating, Hall 8 - Booth F20, how its 5G technology solution, *Wireless Edge Factory*, can address these technical and economic issues by providing significant added value.

This demonstration will be given in partnership with Aviwest, an investor-member of b<>com and world leader in innovative solutions for the Contribution and Digital News Gathering segments. Compact and mobile, the b<>com solution can be deployed anywhere provided that frequencies are available, and can be assigned to such operations. b<>com's experts will also demonstrate how “slicing”, one of the key functions of 5G, can be used to ensure the prioritized transport of production flows with guaranteed levels of quality of service. Lastly, the solution makes it possible to incorporate advanced virtualization functions (cloud or edge), such as for processing content between capture and distribution (mixing, soundtrack, etc.), opening the way to remote production, which could considerably reduce operating costs.

b<>com [HDR-SDR Converter], a recent winner at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, will also be demoed. This solution will be presented in combination with Variable Frame Rate technology, which allows frame rates to be dynamically altered with no loss of image quality to prepare for encoding, such as to reduce storage volumes or limit the bandwidth required for distribution. This technology is naturally useful in playout and workflow servers covering content production and distribution applications, particularly for high frame rate video.
